Origin and Purpose
The Volusia County Law Library exists to serve the general legal resource needs of the legal community and the public. It is established by 1951 Florida Laws, Ch. 27946. The Law Library has three branches. Each branch contains all major Florida primary legal resources, and many practice manuals. The Daytona Beach and DeLand branches also offer major Federal materials, including legislative, administrative and case law resources.
Self Help Legal Materials
The Law Library staff can direct you to the resources that will help you with your legal information needs. Law Library contains many self-help law materials in such areas as Family Law, Business Law, Bankruptcy, Probate and Landlord/ Tenant Law. The Law Library does not have blank forms for each legal action, however many books contain sample formats that are helpful. The Law Library sells Family Law form packets created by Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida in its Daytona Beach and DeLand branches; Court Approved Family Law Forms are also available in the library as well as on our website. The Daytona Beach and DeLand branches of the Law Library are staffed with trained professionals who can help you locate resources that address your legal research questions. All library materials are for reference only and may not be checked out of the Law Library.
The Law Library maintains photocopy machines in the Daytona Beach and DeLand Branches. Anyone may use the machines to make copies; patrons may purchase a copy card for use in the Law Library copiers. The Law Library accepts cash only for all transactions.
The Law Library provides educational programs including seminars and instructional tapes. CLE credits are available for attorneys.
Online Resources
The Volusia County Law Library has computers available for your legal research needs. The Law Library provides access, free of charge, to extensive Westlaw and Lexis databases in the Daytona Beach and DeLand branches. The Law Library provides Lexis online at its legal research workstations in the Deltona and New Smyrna Beach Public Libraries. You may also access legal resources from the Internet on these computers. Computer usage policies apply.
