About The Law Library

Origin and Purpose

The Volusia County Law Library was established in 1951 for the purpose of providing the resources necessary to meet the legal information needs of the legal community and the public. (Laws of Florida, ch. 27946, 69-1706, 73-648.)  The Law Library has branches in Daytona Beach, DeLand, and New Smyrna Beach; and legal research computers in the Deltona and Ormond Beach.  Each branch contains all major Florida primary legal resources, and many practice manuals.  The Daytona Beach and DeLand branches also offer additional secondary sources and Federal law materials.

"The mission of the Volusia County Law Library is to provide the resources necessary to meet the legal information needs of the citizens of Volusia County, and to offer the highest level of reference services. The Law Library provides meaningful access to legal information resources and services and is an essential, effective and integral part of the community."

Self Help Legal Materials

The Law Library staff can direct you to the resources that will help you with your legal information needs. The Law Library contains self-help law materials in areas such as Family Law, Business Law, Bankruptcy Law, Probate Law, Landlord/Tenant Law, and other legal topics. The Law Library does not have blank forms for every legal action, however many forms and sample formats are available. The Law Library sells self-help Supreme Court Approved Family Law Forms, and other legal form samples/packets.


The Daytona Beach and DeLand branches are staffed with reference librarians who can help you locate resources that address your legal research questions.  Library materials are for reference only.

The Law Library maintains photocopy machines in the Daytona Beach and DeLand branches. Fax services are also available.  The Law Library accepts cash or credit cards via PayPal.


The Law Library provides educational programs including seminars and instructional media. CLE credits are available for attorneys.


Electronic Resources

Computers are available for your legal research needs. The Law Library provides access to extensive Westlaw and many other databases and electronic resources.  You may also access legal resources from the internet on these computers.  Computer usage policies apply.  The Law Library provides legal research computers in the Deltona, New Smyrna, and Ormond Beach Public Libraries.
