Origin and Purpose
The Volusia County Law Library opened its doors in 1951 for the purpose of providing the resources necessary to meet the legal information needs of the legal community and the public. The Law Library has three branches. Each branch contains all major Florida primary legal resources, and many practice manuals. The Daytona Beach and DeLand branches also offer additional secondary sources and Federal law materials.
Self Help Legal Materials
The Law Library staff can direct you to the resources that will help you with your legal information needs. The Law Library contains self-help law materials in areas such as Family Law, Business Law, Bankruptcy Law, ProbateLaw, Landlord/ Tenant Law, and other legal topics. The Law Library does not have blank forms for each legal action, however many forms and sample formats are available.
Family Law Forms
The Law Library sells Family Law self-help packets created by Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida in its Daytona Beach and DeLand branches. Supreme Court Approved Family Law Forms are also available.
The Daytona Beach and DeLand branches are staffed with reference librarians who can help you locate resources that address your legal research questions. All library materials are for reference only.
The Law Library maintains photocopy machines in the Daytona Beach and DeLand branches. Fax services are also available. The Law Library accepts cash or credit cards via PayPal.
The Law Library provides educational programs including seminars and instructional media. CLE credits are available for attorneys.
Computers are available for your legal research needs. The Law Library provides access to extensive Westlaw, Lexis and other databases in the Daytona Beach and DeLand branches. You may also access legal resources from the internet on these computers. Computer usage policies apply. The Law Library provides Lexis online at its legal research computers in the Deltona, New Smyrna, and Ormond Beach Public Libraries.
